Kate Middleton’s recent acquirement of the title Princess of Wales, is just the latest in a large number of grand regal names. Also known as the Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall, the Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, Lady Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland, and of course Her Royal Highness, the 41-year-old has built up an impressive collection since marrying into the royal family.
Yet before then, the Princess of Wales was often addressed in much less formal ways. Growing up in Berkshire, Kate attended St Andrews school, in Pangbourne, where the Princess collected one especially cute nickname from her fellow classmates, MyLondon reports.

On a visit to her old school in 2012, the Duchess was famously pictured playing hockey with the year 8’s while wearing high-heeled boots. She then later on chatted to some of the younger pupils about the pets they used to keep at the school.

When telling the children that her class had guinea pigs, Kate revealed that her school friends actually named her after one of them. She said: “There was one called Pip and one called Squeak, so my sister was called Pip and I was Squeak.”

At home Prince William follows a similar line with the adorable nicknames, calling her Poppet or DoD, short for Duchess of Dolittle. Meanwhile when they were first dating the Prince’s friends gave her rather more unflattering nicknames.

They called her ‘Waity Katie’ or ‘Doors to Manual’ in reference to her mother, Carole Middleton’s career as a flight attendant.

Of course, her very first nickname was Kate but it never really stuck until she was at university. Her full name is Catherine and she reportedly only started going by Kate after her teens.

Kate’s children already have some pretty cute nicknames too. The eldest kids have been calling Prince Louise older two have been calling him Lou Lou since he was little.

Friends of George at school have taken to calling the prince both ‘PG’ and ‘Tips’, based on the popular tea brand PG Tips and his Prince George initials. Charlotte meanwhile has come to be known as Lottie by her classmates.
