The 2025 Royal Variety Performance was Prince William and Princess Kate’s sixth time attending the event together and their first red carpet moment since November 2023.

The royal couple last made such a glamorous appearance at the Royal Variety Performance in 2023, and it was a rare double date. The Prince and Princess of Wales brought Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden to the evening of entertainment, as they helped host the Swedish royals during their visit to the U.K.

The Princess of Wales shared news about her health in March 2024 and reduced her duties for much of the year. She shared the following September that she completed chemotherapy and announced in January that she is in remission.

The event is the annual fundraiser for the Royal Variety Charity, which supports professionals from the entertainment industry in need. In 2024, the charity established a dedicated team to provide mental health help, a cause that William and Kate have both made a priority of their royal work.

King Charles represented the royal family at the Royal Variety Performance last year, attending the event alone at the last minute after Queen Camilla canceled her plans to go due to a lingering chest infection.

It’s been a tradition for members of the royal family to attend the Royal Variety Performance since King George V, “a great fan of variety,” became Life-Patron of the Royal Variety Charity in 1921, the year the event became annual.

“Life-Patronage from the reigning monarch continues to the present day, demonstrating the Royal Family’s long support & affection for the entertainment industry,” its website says.
