New pictures of a grinning Princess Charlotte and her Family Dog Orla have been released to mark her eighth birthday.

The Prince and Princess of Wales thanked the public for sending birthday wishes to the Princess on Tuesday.

Alongside the tweet from their official account, the couple released a picture of the Princess hugging their black cocker spaniel, Orla.

The Princess was pictured wearing a blue and white knitted jumper, surrounded by daffodils.

Another photograph, released earlier in the day, shows the young Princess dressed in a white dress, smiling and relaxed while leaning back in a chair.

It was taken in Windsor over the Bank Holiday weekend by the Princess of Wales, who regularly takes family portraits.

The Waleses live in Adelaide Cottage in Windsor’s Home Park. Charlotte attends the private Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire, alongside her two brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis.

The new photographs come just a few days before she will watch her grandfather being crowned in Westminster Abbey on Saturday.

Charlotte is expected to accompany her brothers in the procession from Westminster Abbey back to Buckingham Palace after the King and Queen’s Coronation.

The release of the new portraits also follow the celebration of the Prince and Princess of Wales’s youngest son’s birthday on April 23 – marked with a picture of a smiling Prince Louis in a wheelbarrow at their home.

Charlotte is third in line to the throne and was born at the private maternity Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, central London, at 8.34am on May 2 2015, weighing 8lb 3oz.

The birthday girl’s full title is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.
