Kate Middleton broke one of her go-to fashion rules at a royal family wedding this weekend.
On June 6, the Princess of Wales, 44, attended the wedding of Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling in the Cotswolds with her husband Prince William, supporting his cousin’s special day.
Princess Kate served a style surprise by sporting a short-sleeved cream boucle dress identified as by Roland Mouret and Jane Taylor London hat, both which appear to be new.
The move broke her typical protocol for wedding guest dressing, as Kate is known to recycle outfits she already owns while attending weddings.
The Princess of Wales’ fashion hack ensures the spotlight stays on the newlyweds.

Kate sported an epic royal rewear for the 2018 nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, donning an off-white Alexander McQueen coat dress that she had already worn twice before.
A few years later, some wondered if the blush Ellie Saab gown she wore to Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan’s nuptials in 2023 was a repeat from the wedding of her sister, Pippa Middleton, in 2017.

Princess Kate wore a dress and fascinator in the same shade for her sister’s daytime ceremony that May, and the release in the label’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection suggested that she had owned it for years already.
Kate’s appearance at Peter and Harriet’s nuptials marked her first major wedding since the Jordanian royal wedding. In March 2024, the Princess of Wales shared that she was undergoing treatment for cancer and reduced her schedule to focus on her health, later updating in January 2025 that she was in remission.

Princess Kate skipped the last major British society wedding — the June 2024 nuptials of Prince George’s godfather, the Duke of Westminster — during that time.
The Princess of Wales made another unexpected tweak to her outfit when she stepped back into wedding guest mode on Saturday, wearing her Jane Taylor London Hera Hat with Satin Bow backwards.

While the model wore the straw hat with the chestnut bow facing forward in product pictures, Kate flipped the script by wearing it the other way. She completed the look with a sparkling pair of earrings and beige accessories, acing wedding guest dressing on a neutral note.
The Prince and Princess of Wales joined King Charles, Queen Camilla, the mother of the groom Princess Anne and more royals in celebrating Harriet and Peter’s big day as they tied the knot at All Saints Church in the village of Kemble.

Harriet, 45, wore a lace gown by Emilia Wickstead and topped the look with the Pragnell Tiara, reportedly borrowing the headpiece from the jeweler behind her engagement ring.
Harriet’s gorgeous gown drew comparison to Princess Kate’s own bridal style, as both women opted for lace bodices and long, flowing veils for their royal weddings.
Emilia Wickstead has also been a go-to designer in Kate’s rotation for years, but her 2011 wedding dress was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and featured a fuller skirt, among other intricate differences.
