Kate Middleton incorporated a sweet treat from home into the lunch she organized for young Scouts at her landmark outing with first lady Melania Trump.
On Sept. 18, the Princess of Wales, 43, and the first lady of the United States, 55, stepped out to spend time with young members of the U.K. Scouts’ Squirrels program at Frogmore Gardens in their first joint engagement.
It was the first solo outing ever for Princess Kate and Melania, who both appeared to be in their element as they connected with the children, and the Princess of Wales wove a homemade staple that she whipped up herself into the lunch for the youngsters.
According to the Daily Mail, Princess Kate organized a special packed lunch for the Scouts’ Squirrels, featuring sandwiches with honey she made herself from her family’s hives at Anmer Hall.
Anmer Hall is Princess Kate and Prince William’s private home in the Norfolk countryside, which they received as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth in 2011.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are known to retreat there with their kids, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, during free weekends, school breaks and holidays, and the Georgian manor is where Kate keeps her beehives.
Princess Kate’s homemade honey wasn’t the only honey in play on Thursday, either. As a memento from the special day, Melania gifted each of the children a jar of honey from the White House, the Daily Mail reported.
Princess Kate and the American first lady both seemed to be in their element during their outing with the Scouts, where the organization’s Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields, welcomed them.
Kate and Melania arrived for the appearance together at Frogmore Gardens in Windsor, where they got to watch the Scouts learn more about nature to earn their “Go Wild” badge.

The Princess of Wales (who is known as the “Children’s Princess” for her warm way with kids) sat on the grass and talked to the Scouts, while a child hopped on Melania’s lap as she sat at a table and saw their art.
“This is beautiful!” Melania exclaimed as she checked out their creations.
Princess Kate and Melania later played parachute with the Scouts and participated in their badge ceremony with Fields.
The Scouts are a cause close to the heart of Princess Kate, who is the organization’s Joint President and an alumna of the Brownies herself.
She and the first lady appeared together on the final day of President Donald Trump’s state visit to the U.K., which began on Wednesday, Sept. 17, and wraps on Thursday.
