The bond between a mother and a daughter is unlike any other—and the closeness between Kate Middleton and her only daughter, Princess Charlotte, was on full display on Easter Sunday.
On April 5, the Wales family of five made their first appearance at the royal family’s annual Easter service at St. George’s Chapel since 2023, before the Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer the next year. She announced in January 2025 that she is in remission.
On Easter Sunday, a heartwarming moment was captured between Kate and Charlotte that saw mother and daughter holding hands as shot from behind. It is but one example of the immense bond between the two, which has been evident over the years—and has also been on display through the pair’s often coordinating fashion. Such was the case on Sunday, when Kate and Charlotte both wore dresses from Self-Portrait, the Princess of Wales’s a cream mididress and Charlotte’s a baby blue look, worn under a Catherine Walker coat she previously wore on Christmas Day 2025.
“Charlotte seems to be very full of admiration for her mother, which I think is a lovely thing, too,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward previously told Hello!. “Kate and Charlotte are great friends, and I think to Kate, their bond is very precious. The mother-daughter relationship is obviously particularly important to Kate because she has such a close relationship with her own mother, Carole Middleton.”
Charlotte has previously been described as Kate’s “mini-me,” and the two took part in a mother-daughter piano duet that aired during Kate’s annual “Together at Christmas” carol concert last December. Erland Cooper, who composed the piece of music that Kate and Charlotte played together, was there for the duet’s filming at Windsor Castle and told Hello! that the moment was “just lovely,” adding that he “was invited to witness this incredible bond between mother and daughter performing together, and for that, I am so grateful.”

Longtime royal photographer Karwai Tang said of Kate and Charlotte that “You can see that they are so close,” and Hello! previously cited a source as saying that, particularly during Kate’s 2024 cancer treatment, “Charlotte has been a great source of strength for her.”
“She cheers the princess up when she needs it most and has an uncanny ability to say the right thing at the right time,” the insider added.
Seward added that, “Kate is very close to all her children, but it’s lovely to see what seems to be a real, affectionate bond between her and her only daughter.”
Not to be left out, Charlotte also had a sweet moment caught on camera with her dad, Prince William, as captured in the 10-year-old looking up at her father sweetly outside of the church on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Charlotte “looks very confident and at ease with herself and the environment she’s in,” childrenswear designer Amaia Arrieta previously told People. “The maturity that comes with that responsibility—she seems to nail it every time.”
