Kate Middleton and Prince William’s longtime nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, is accepting a special recognition at Windsor Castle.

On March 24, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ trusted nanny to their three children received the Royal Victorian Medal (Silver) during an investiture ceremony in Windsor. Borrallo has worked for William and Kate since Prince George, 12, was a baby and has remained a steady presence in the years since Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, were born.

A statement said the family’s nanny was decorated “for services to the Prince and Princess of Wales” in an investiture ceremony helmed by Prince William, 43, meaning he was the one to award her the honor.

While other honorees of Tuesday’s investiture ceremony were photographed receiving their awards from Prince William, images and video of Borrallo at the event were not shared with the media.

According to Hello! magazine, the silver Royal Victorian Medal is an honor bestowed at the discretion of King Charles, differentiating it from other well-known distinctions like MBEs, OBEs and CBEs that are often conferred upon famous figures and outstanding citizens for their community contributions.

Borrallo was distinguished for her enduring service to Prince William and Princess Kate’s family, accepting a royal recognition that was first announced in the King’s New Year Honours List in December 2025.

The Spanish-born nanny has worked for the Prince and Princess of Wales for about 12 years, joining their team when Prince George was 8 months old and living with them at Kensington Palace in London when they were based there.

“Maria loves the children dearly. She can be firm and strict, but she is very loving and soft with them too,” a source previously told PEOPLE about their dynamic.

Borrallo is a next-level nanny as a graduate of the prestigious Norland College in Bath, which touts itself as a world-class childcare training institute. Students can earn degrees in early childhood education alongside a skills-based diploma, learning everything from child development theory to infant nutrition, outdoor learning, medical care, cybersecurity training, self-defense with strollers and evasive driving techniques, inspiring the nickname “Mary Poppins meets James Bond.”

Norland Nannies earn the option of wearing Norland’s classic brown uniform, which Borrallo has sported for royal appearances before.

William and Kate’s nanny was spotted more frequently behind the scenes when George and Charlotte were younger, lending a hand with the children at events including royal tours, Trooping the Colour, Charlotte’s christening, Pippa Middleton’s 2017 wedding and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding.

Though the Prince and Princess of Wales’ children have grown older, Borrallo remains at the heart of the family and was recently spotted driving with William and Charlotte at King Charles’ Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace in December.
