Prince of Wales revealed that his kids are hitting all the right notes.

On Sept. 9, the Prince of Wales, 43, spoke about his children’s musical interests while visiting Spiral Skills, a youth group in Lambeth that has received funding from the Homewards Fund to expand its services for young people in the area.

The Homewards Fund is part of William’s Homewards campaign, aiming to make homelessness rare, brief and unrepeated across the U.K., and the grant allowed Spiral Skills to move into a new space at The Oasis Village, Tulse Hill, where the royal spoke about Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, in the music studio.

According to Hello! magazine, the Prince of Wales declined Django Brooke’s invitation to play the drums there — and said Prince Louis would be better suited for the duty!

“I’m definitely not a drummer. I’m happy to see you do it. If my youngest was here, he’d have a go, because he’s practicing at the moment, but I’d love to hear you do it. But thank you for asking,” William told the 16-year-old.

The Prince of Wales applauded after Brooke performed and said with a laugh, “And that’s why you play, and I don’t!”

Hello! reported that William shared more about his own musical aptitude and said that it’s important for his children to have an understanding.

“I wish I started when I was your age. I couldn’t read music, so that was biggest weakness. I started off playing piano, trumpet and the drums, and then realized I had to memorize every tune and it just fell away,” William told young musicians participating in a workshop. “I make sure my children learn music because I love music, and it’s crucial — really important.”

Added Symphony Studios founder Seth Pinnock, “He said he couldn’t play drums well. He said he had learned drums and learned keyboards but couldn’t read it… But his children are learning to play keys, so hopefully his kids will come here one day and learn.”

Prince William throne previously revealed that Prince Louis was learning to play the drums and cracked a joke that the hobby was noisy!

“My youngest is learning the drums. That’s why I spend my entire life with my fingers in my ears,” Prince William told Rolling Stones bassist Ronnie Wood and former Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler at the Tusk Awards in London in November 2024.

Prince Louis isn’t the only one with a rocking hobby. While touring a practice for a concert timed to Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, Kate Middleton said that Prince George had been taking electric guitar lessons while Princess Charlotte had been practicing the piano.

Princess Kate, 43, revealed her hidden talent for piano at her inaugural Together at Christmas carol service in December 2021, where she joined singer Tom Walker on the keys in a surprise during the show.

Kate hit the keys for Walker’s performance of “For Those Who Can’t Be Here,” surrounded by candles at Westminster Abbey.

A royal source said then that the idea for the performance came from Princess Kate, who learned piano as a child and took “great comfort” in playing music during the COVID pandemic.

“Music was very important to the [then] Duchess during the lockdowns,” the royal source said then, referencing Kate by her Duchess of Cambridge title at the time.

“She also recognizes the powerful way in which music brings people together — especially during difficult times. For these reasons, she was keen to be part of Tom’s performance in this way.”

The Princess of Wales showed off her musical prowess again in 2023 when she contributed a short piano performance to the opening sequence film of the Eurovision Song Contest.
